How does the ranking work (Elo system)?
Every term starts with 1000 points. In each duel the winner gains points from the loser — how many depends on how surprising the result was and how many duels the term has already had (new terms move faster). Over many votes this produces a stable overall ranking.
What does the 🆕 symbol mean?
New terms (e.g. from approved suggestions) are only considered "established" once they have competed in at least 10 duels. Until then we show the 🆕 symbol, because their Elo value is still not very meaningful.
When does a ranking count as complete?
You don't have to compare every term against every other. When choosing a size (8, 16, 32, or "All") you decide how many terms you rank this round — once all direct or logically derivable (transitive) relationships within that pool are known, the round counts as complete.
Can I complete a ranking more than once?
Yes — all 4 methods can be repeated as often as you like. The completion XP shrinks with each repeat, so repeating doesn't pay off indefinitely.
How is the next pair chosen?
The algorithm mixes the top, Elo-sorted terms of your chosen pool with a few random fill-in terms. If you don't know a term, you can permanently exclude it from your personal pool via "don't know it".
What is the Ranking Streak?
If you complete at least one ranking on consecutive days, your streak grows. The streak does not count towards rankings.
What happens when I tap "don't know it" on a term?
The term is permanently removed from your personal ranking pool. This has no effect on the global ranking, the term's Elo rating, or other users — it only affects your own view.

When you complete a ranking, your bonus depends not just on finishing, but also on how consistent your ratings are overall. Voters who are careful and contradiction-free receive the full bonus — rewarding genuine engagement.
